Hayden Coombes
Hayden’s love for motorbikes began at a young age, sitting on a bike with his dad and riding around the family farm. By the age of 5, he was riding on his own with his first bike, a Honda CRF50. A few years later, he upgraded to a Honda CRF125, which he used not only to explore the farm but also to help round up sheep. The thrill of handling a bigger bike and countless hours spent watching his idol, Haiden Deegan, inspired Hayden to ask the age-old question: “Can I do motocross?”
In November 2022, Hayden got his first taste of motocross on the Nippers track at ACT MCC, where he met his next idol and coach, James Davison. Under James’s guidance, Hayden dedicated himself to learning the sport, attending every coaching session he could. By March 2023, he was ready for his first motocross race, competing on his Honda CRF125 in the 85cc 9-U12 class. To everyone’s surprise, Hayden managed to outperform several riders on 85cc race bikes.
In April 2023, Hayden stepped up to a KTM 65, embracing the challenge of riding a 2-stroke bike for the first time. Just a month later, he added a KTM 85 to his lineup, and since then, his passion and progress have been unstoppable.
The year 2024 marked Hayden’s official introduction to the competitive world of motocross racing. Competing in over 20 races across tracks in NSW and the ACT, he experienced the highs of podium finishes and the challenges of overcoming crashes, weather conditions, and bike issues. Despite the hurdles, Hayden’s determination and skill shone through. By the end of his first full year of racing, he had secured the following achievements:
1st ACT MCC 85cc 9-U12 Championship
1st ACT MCC 65cc 10-U12 Championship
3rd CORC 65cc 10-U12 Championship
Hayden’s journey in motocross has only just begun, and with his dedication and love for the sport, he is well on his way to achieving even greater success.
